If you're craving that authentic cannoli flavor but don't have the time (or patience) to fill and fry cannoli shells, this Easy Cannoli Dip is the next best thing. This delicious dip tastes just like authentic cannolis without all the fuss. I’ve been cooking for over 40 years, and I’ve made my fair share of traditional cannoli. But this creamy cannoli dip? It delivers all that classic cannoli goodness in under 30 minutes! It’s my go-to for holidays, parties, and last-minute desserts. Just mix, chill, and serve. No stand mixer or baking required. This is one of those recipes that gets rave reviews every time.

Love the flavor of cannoli? Try some Cannoli Cups or Cannoli Cookies, which are both the perfect sweet treat. This creamy dip would also be right at home next to my Italian Wedding Cookies, those nutty, melt-in-your-mouth favorites. Create a full dessert spread that’s perfect for holidays or coffee with friends.

Ingredient Notes

All ingredients for Cannoli Dip.

See recipe card for quantities.

Whole milk ricotta cheese - This is the heart of the dip. It’s essential to use high-quality ricotta and ensure it’s drained thoroughly using cheesecloth, paper towels, or a fine-mesh strainer. Too much moisture can make your dip watery.

Mascarpone cheese - Rich and creamy, this gives the dip its silky texture. Make sure it’s at room temperature so it blends smoothly.

Step by Step Instructions

Ricotta and Mascarpone Cheese in a mixing bowl.

Step 1: In a large bowl, mix the ricotta and mascarpone until smooth.

Cheese mixture plus powdered sugar.

Step 2: Slowly add powdered sugar and mix until combined.

Mixture plus vanilla, lemon zest and juice.

Step 3: Add vanilla extract, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Mix until creamy and well blended.

Mixture plus mini chocolate chips.

Step 4: Fold in mini chocolate chips using a rubber spatula.

Storage and Make Ahead

Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. It will stay fresh for up to 3 days.

Freezing: I do not recommend freezing this dip. The texture changes once thawed and becomes grainy.

Make Ahead: This is a great make-ahead dessert dip. Prepare it a few hours in advance and cover with plastic wrap. Let it chill in the fridge until you're ready to serve.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese well-drained
  • 1 cup mascarpone softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Start by draining the ricotta cheese. To remove excess moisture, wrap it in cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel, or place it in a fine-mesh strainer and let it sit for a few minutes.
  • In a medium-sized bowl, combine 1 cup of ricotta cheese and 1 cup of softened mascarpone using a hand or stand mixer. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  • Slowly sift in 2 cups of powdered sugar, then add 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract, lemon zest, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Mix until the dip becomes creamy and silky.
  • Gently fold in ½ cup mini chocolate chips for a sweet crunch.
  • Transfer the dip to a serving bowl, and if you’re feeling fancy, garnish with more mini chocolate chips on top.

Notes

Be sure to drain the ricotta thoroughly; otherwise, the dip may become too runny.
You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less powdered sugar, depending on your taste.
This dip is great with your favorite dippers, such as pizzelle cookies, graham crackers, cinnamon-sugar pita chips, vanilla wafers, fresh fruit, or even crispy waffle cone pieces.
If you prefer a stronger lemon flavor, feel free to add a little extra lemon juice.
This dish can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for a few hours, allowing the flavors to meld together.
Let your mascarpone sit out until it reaches room temperature. This helps everything blend together without lumps.

This cannoli dip was such a hit! It tasted just like the filling from a bakery cannoli but way easier to make. I served it with waffle cone pieces, and everyone couldn’t stop dipping.
